Why Odessa

For the weeds that keep coming back

A selective, post-emergent herbicide built for the hard-to-kill weeds, like Guildford grass (onion grass) and onion weed, that shrug off most other sprays.

  • Targets persistent weeds: onion grass, onion weed, bindii, clover, oxalis and more
  • Selectively removes ryegrass from Couch, Buffalo and Kikuyu lawns
  • Low odour, low toxicity, water-dispersible granule that mixes clean
  • Listed safe on Couch, Buffalo and Kikuyu, but not Queensland Blue Couch. Check the label for your grass type, or spot-test first if you are unsure
How to use

Spray it in three steps

1
Mix

Mix the granules at the label rate into water in your sprayer until fully dissolved.

2
Spray

Spray evenly across the weeds and the area while they are actively growing, ideally with daily temps of 18 to 21°C or higher. Pick a rain-free window.

3
Wait, then repeat

Give it time to work, and follow up per the label if any weeds remain. Avoid mowing just before or just after.

Questions

Good to know

What weeds does it kill?+
Odessa targets a range of tough weeds, including Guildford grass (onion grass), onion weed, bindii, white clover, oxalis, mouse ear chickweed, cudweed, cat's ear, medic, cotula and black thistle. It also selectively removes ryegrass from Couch, Buffalo and Kikuyu lawns.
Is it safe on my lawn?+
It is listed safe on warm-season grasses including Common Couch, Hybrid Couch, Buffalo and Kikuyu. Do not use it on Queensland Blue Couch. Always check the label for your grass type, and spot-test a small area first if you are unsure.
When is the best time to spray?+
Autumn or spring, when the weeds are healthy and actively growing. You get the best control when daily temps reach 18 to 21°C or higher. Avoid cold winter periods when daytime temps stay below 15°C, as it works less well.
How fast does it work?+
Used at the right time and rate, you will see the weeds start to go backwards over the days that follow. Persistent weeds like onion grass can need a follow-up per the label.
How is it different from Bow & Arrow?+
Bow & Arrow is a broad, everyday broadleaf weed killer. Odessa is the one to reach for when you have the tougher, persistent weeds like onion grass and onion weed that other sprays leave behind.
Should I feed the lawn afterwards?+
Worth doing. As the weeds clear, a feed helps the lawn thicken up and fill the gaps. The Weed & Feed Bundle pairs weed control with a feed.

Take on the tough weeds

For onion grass, onion weed and the other persistent weeds that keep coming back. Selective control that leaves the lawn standing.
