Questions

Good to know

When should I sow couch seed?+
Couch is a warm-season grass, so sow once soil temperatures are warm, from spring through to early autumn. Exact timing varies by state, with the warmer northern regions having a longer window. It is not recommended for Tasmania.
How long does it take to germinate?+
In warm conditions you will usually see seedlings within one to three weeks, and Royal Bengal establishes faster than standard couch. Warmth and consistent moisture keep it moving.
How much do I need?+
Sow at 1kg per 100m² for a new lawn, or 500g per 100m² to oversow an existing lawn. Measure your area first to work out how many packs you need.
How often should I water?+
Keep the surface moist with light daily watering until the lawn is established. Drying out during germination is the most common reason couch fails to take.
When can I mow it for the first time?+
Once the new grass reaches about 5 to 6cm, take only the top third off with a sharp blade. Couch takes a low cut well once it has knitted together.
